Happy Thanksgiving!

Today we graphed our favorite Thanksgiving foods. Overall, our class likes turkey the best, with pie as a close running second!

We also made Thanksgiving owls with a list of the things we are thankful for this Thanksgiving.

We had a lot of fun learning about the Thanksgiving story and being thankful for the friends we have made in our class!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving "Roll and Record"

Today during math we played "Roll and Record." With a partner, we took turns rolling two dice. We added the two numbers together and colored a picture with the corresponding total. Whoever colored the most pictures by the time the page was complete, was determined the winner!

Everyone should have brought this game home this afternoon with an additional challenge!

We were also busy writing our own books this afternoon after learning about the Thanksgiving story through a "flap book."

Stay tuned for more turkey trouble tomorrow!

Writing Wizards!

This week we have been learning about adjectives, or words that describe. We began using a "web" to collect our ideas about a topic and then used the web to write sentences about the topic. After generating several ideas and sentences together, students had the chance to write about a topic of their choice following the same process.

1. Illustrate the topic
2. Write six adjectives to describe your topic
3. Write 3-4 sentences using the adjectives you wrote in the web

We have shown SO much progress in using our letter sound knowledge in writing words. Our sentence structure, spacing, and punctuation are also very impressive! Enjoy a few of our examples!

Thanks again for your work at home on our "Tom Turkey" disguising family project! We have enjoyed sharing each of them!

Keep up the great work!

Ms. Conlee

Toys From Home Celebration!

Last week we filled our class compliment jar AGAIN and voted to celebrate with toys from home! We thoroughly enjoyed hanging out and sharing our toys with one another! Our class also received four huge compliments from other teachers in our school throughout the day! It was an incredibly respectful Monday!

Thanks for a great day!

Thank you, Mr. Dixon!

Today we said goodbye to a high school intern who has been working in our classroom since September! Mr. Dixon has been an influence on our learning for several days and we are thankful for the hours he spent in our classroom!

Best of luck in the future, Mr. Dixon!

Have a great weekend!

Adding, Subtracting, and Graphing!

Yesterday we built on our understanding of addition and subtraction by solving multiple story problems. We each drew a picture to represent the story and wrote a number sentence to match.

This morning during math we each received two packages of Smarties. We first sorted them by color. We determined they could not be sorted any other way because they were all the same size and shape. Next, we graphed the Smarties by color. Finally, we completed multiple addition number sentences by adding three different colors of Smarties together. It was tough brain work, but we did a fabulous job!

Enjoy your "home day" tomorrow!

The train game and our first snow!

Today we learned the "growing and disappearing train game" in math! The tools we needed included a dice with numbers 1, 2, and 3 on the faces and a pile of blocks. For the growing train game, each partner took a turn rolling the dice and adding the corresponding number of blocks to their train. The first partner to get a train of 20 won the game! The disappearing train game was the opposite! We began with 20 blocks, rolled the dice, and eliminated the corresponding number of blocks. The first partner to zero won!

This afternoon was a point of no return with our excitement of our first snow to stick to the ground! Many of us forgot to bring a coat to school today - and certainly weren't thinking we would need our snow pants!

Catching snow flakes!

See you tomorrow!

Color Mixing!

It is difficult to capture just how hard all 23 of my friends have been working to make such reading and writing progress! Here is a glimpse of a reading group working hard to respond to a book we had read in our small group.

This week we have been focusing on reading and writing color words! Today we experimented with primary colors, red, yellow, and blue, to see what would happen if we mixed different combinations together.

We discovered the following:

  • red + yellow = organge
  • yellow + blue = green
  • blue + red = purple

Be sure to ask your kiddo about the special Veterans Day family gathering we had today!

What a great day!

Measurement and a Drive-In Movie!

Today we investigated measurement with various objects. Each table group was responsible to cooperate in order to determine how many straws it would take to measure the length and height of their table.

Then we measured our tables length and height using crayons.

Lastly, we measured our tables length and height using a tape measure. We discovered that all of our measurements were very similar because we were measuring tables that were the same size with the same tools.

We happened to fill our class compliment jar A-G-A-I-N this morning! We voted to celebrate with a "Drive-in Movie" where we all brought our lunch to the classroom to eat while we watched "Word World!" One of our FAVORITE celebrations, for sure!

Have a great night!
Love,

Ms. Conlee
